Most disturbing movie moments
10. Seth's final transformation (The Fly (1986))
When Veronica rips his jaw off, it's on. Cool to watch, but really sick.
9. Paxton meets the American businessman (Hostel)
What makes this so creepy is how pumped up the guy is. Just look in his eyes when he's brandishing the gun.
8. The Satan sequence (The Adventures Of Mark Twain)
I vaguely remembered seeing this as a kid of 6, and when it came out on DVD I watched it again and was just creeped out. Dark imagery, a double-tracked voice, and this quote all help to make it nightmarish:
"Life itself is only an illusion. Nothing exists save empty space and you. And you...are but a thought."
7. The exorcism (The Exorcist)
One of the most terrifying sequences in film history. Whether it be the levitating, the head spinning, the vomit, or the "Help Me," any one will do.
6. The eye thing (Hostel)
The closest I've ever come to vomiting in a movie theater. It didn't help that I had a mouth full of popcorn.
5. "Your crew is here with me!" (Omatsuri's Secret Island)
One Piece is usually light and breezy. Not here. The most disturbing villain and the most disturbing sight in the history of the anime's existence. Nightmare fuel to the Nth degree.
4. The fire extinguisher beatdown (Irreversible)
Seeing a guy getting his head pounded into hamburger is disturbing enough. That it happens right away makes it unbearable.
3. The Sloth murder (Seven)
One of the greatest, most unexpected jump-out-of-your-seat moments in movie history. I screamed so loud I woke up the entire house.
2. The last 15 minutes (Requiem For A Dream)
There's no better depiction of the sheer hell of addiction. You'll be turning away when you see what Marion goes through.
1. Sarah's nightmare (Terminator 2)
I saw this for the first time when I was seven and it scared me out of my mind. To this day, I still can't watch this part of the movie. That level of screaming Linda Hamilton reaches is inhuman.
